چکیده

We present a numerical method to solve the linear stability of impulsively accelerated density interfaces in two dimensions such as those arising in the Richtmyer–Meshkov instability. The method uses an Eulerian approach, and is based on an upwind method to compute the temporally evolving base state and a flux vector splitting method for the perturbations. The method is applicable to either gas dynamics or magnetohydrodynamics. Numerical examples are presented for cases in which a hydrodynamic shock interacts with a single or double density interface, and a doubly shocked single density interface. Convergence tests show that the method is spatially second-order accurate for smooth flows, and between first and second-order accurate for flows with shocks. 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Stability of an impulsively accelerated density interface in magnetohydrodynamics.

In the framework of ideal incompressible magnetohydrodynamics, we examine the stability of an impulsively accelerated, sinusoidally perturbed density interface in the presence of a magnetic field that is parallel to the acceleration. This is accomplished by analytically solving the linearized initial value problem, which is a model for the Richtmyer-Meshkov instability. We find that the initial...

Combined effect of hall current and chemical reaction on MHD flow through porous medium with heat generation past an impulsively started vertical plate with constant wall temperature and mass diffusion

Unsteady flow with magneto-hydrodynamics and heat generation through porous medium past an impulsively started vertical plate with constant wall temperature and mass diffusion is considered here. The effect studied is a combination of Hall current and chemical reaction. The motivation behind this study is the applications of such kind of problems in industry. In many industrial applications ele...

MHD ‎r‎otating heat and mass transfer free convective flow past an exponentially accelerated isothermal plate with fluctuating mass ‎diffusion

In this paper, we have considered the problem of rotating, magnetohydrodynamic heat and mass transfer by free convective flow past an exponentially accelerated isothermal vertical plate in the presence of variable mass diffusion. While the temperature of the plate is constant, the concentration at the plate is considered to be a linear function with respect to time t. The plate is assumed to be...

Geometrical shock dynamics for magnetohydrodynamic fast shocks

We describe a formulation of two-dimensional geometrical shock dynamics (GSD) suitable for ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) fast shocks under magnetic fields of general strength and orientation. The resulting area–Mach-number–shock-angle relation is then incorporated into a numerical method using pseudospectral differentiation. The MHD-GSD model is verified by comparison with results from nonlin...

Stability Assessment of the Flexible System using Redundancy

In this study, dynamic behavior of a mooring line in a floating system is analyzed by probability approaches. In dynamics, most researches have shown the system model and environments by mathematical expression. We called this process as the forward dynamics. However, there is a limit to define the exact environments because of uncertainty. To consider uncertainty, we introduce the redundancy i...
